As an Indian living abroad

we live with one foot in India and the other in our chosen home abroad. There’s a feeling many of us know too well, scrolling through news from India while sitting in Toronto, London, or Sydney, and feeling that familiar ache. Not quite homesickness, not quite anger. Just that tug of being in-between.

We are Sudeshna and Mili and we are building DoorDesi– a weekly newsletter and a community for expat Indians and first-generation immigrants who want to stay in touch with India without the overwhelm.

We curate news from India that matters to those of us living outside of it. From political shifts to the cultural moments, and all the things your family WhatsApp group will bring up but you'd rather actually know it from verified news sources.

Our mission

Forced or chosen, migration is woven into Indian history. DoorDesi is our attempt to reframe that relationship with India from guilt and confusion, into connection and pride.

We are not a general news aggregator, and we're not writing for people living in India. In just a year we have become a reliable, curated source of news on India, written from the diaspora, for the diaspora. Being a DoorDesi is a strength, not a weakness.

What our readers say

I like the tone and structure. The latest one is sharper, was a fun read!
As someone who now has a short attention span credits to general brain rot content, it was genuinely nice to have a little bit of a conversation-style backstory to the articles. Further, the articles which were linked were well written and structured in a non-bias way. This is hard to find these days. Especially loved the piece on the Bihar elections!
